About

Hello, my name is Joanne Johnson – DipFHP RFHP Dip.Reflex and welcome to my Business, Feet Boutique.

I am a fully qualified Foot Health Practitioner & Reflexologist, having studied at Stonebridge College and Therapy Training School. This has gained me status on the Register for Foot Health Practitioners and I am also a member of the RFHP. I am fully insured to carry out foot health and reflexology treatments and I am DBS checked and cleared. I am a mobile practitioner covering Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas.

I have many years experience working within the Health Care Sector, working alongside various different Health Care Professionals.

Through plenty of study, I am aware of how precious our feet are. Looking after our feet now, can help to reduce many foot conditions in the future; foot conditions which may escalate into something more serious! Diabetes especially can have a massive impact on the feet, so it is especially important for anyone with diabetes to get regular foot care and advice. I am trained and qualified to refer clients into other Health Care Professionals such as GPs or Podiatrists, should this be needed.

If you think you could benefit from Foot Health or Reflexology treatments please contact me for appointment availability. Appointments include a full assessment, treatment and aftercare advice.

Nail cutting & Filing

There are lots of different nail conditions such as thickened nails, curved nails, and fungal nails, etc. so it is important to get your nails cut and filed correctly to reduce the risk of further complications from occurring, such as ingrowing toenails and infections.

Hard skin (callus) removal

Thickened areas of the skin with no central nucleus caused by friction and/or pressure. Regular reduction of callus can help to alleviate pain and discomfort.

Cracked heels and fissures

Excessive anhidrosis (dry skin) can cause cracked heels and fissures to occur on the feet. Regular treatment will help to reduce the risk of further complications such as infections and ulcerations etc.

Corns

Thickened areas of skin which have a central nucleus. Associated with toe deformities and poor fitting footwear which cause extreme pressure or compression to the foot. Corns can become extremely painful and uncomfortable if not treated.

Ingrowing toe nails (Onychocryptosis)

When a penetrating spur, splinter or sharp edge of nail cuts into the skin causing injury. Ingrowing toenails often cause extreme pain, redness and swelling. If not treated correctly infection can occur.

Thickened nails

Trauma, long-term pressure and poor fitting footwear can all cause thickening of the nails. Treatment of thickened nails can help to alleviate pain and discomfort and can also reduce the risk of infections from occurring under the nail plate.

Diabetic foot care

Nerves and blood vessels of the feet can be damaged with this long term condition. It is therefore essential to get regular diabetic foot care in order to reduce the risk of further complications such as infections, ulcerations, amputations etc.

Verruca

A viral infection (Human Papilloma Virus) also known as HPV,  can be painful when pinched and appear as tiny dots in between the striae of the skin. The virus can be easily spread through skin contact and touching infected surfaces. Early intervention should be sought to help reduce the risk of spreading the infection.

Fungal nail (Onychomycosis)

Characterised by discoloured and brittle nails, fungal infections are highly contagious. A positive diagnosis should be saught via a professional before treatment commences.

Athletes Foot (Tinea Pedis)

A fungal infection of the skin, characterised by peeling and itching. It mainly affects the area between the toes and plantar (under) aspect of the foot. The condition is contagious and can be easily spread through skin contact and touching infected surfaces. Treatment of the feet and footwear should be undertaken to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.

Reflexology

Reflexology, also known as Zone Therapy, is the massage of the feet and/or hands, concentrating on specific pressure points which correspond to certain systems of the body. Although techniques involve direct application of the feet and hands, the potential benefits can be widespread throughout the body. It is thought that reflexes in the feet and hands correspond to different systems of the body i.e. lymphatic system, circulatory system, and digestive system etc.

Although there is confusion regarding the origin of the therapy, it has stood the test of time, helping many generations of people to improve their health and achieve healing. Historical evidence can be found in early medical texts and drawings from all over the world, showing that reflexology existed in many variations, in all of the ancient healing cultures, that practised some form of healing.
